Rhodri Glyn Thomas & Peter Hewlett Friday 16 May 2008

Mr Rhodri Glyn Thomas came to Aberdaron to see how local businesses are working to promote tourism in the area. He was impressed to see how we have set up Geocaching Wales and to discover the activity of geocaching. He thought it was a excellent way of exploring the Welsh countryside and culture.

Launching geocachingwales.com at the NEC

We can report a very successful geocaching event at the Crickhowell Walking Festival on Saturday and Sunday the 1st / 2nd of March and 8th / 9th of March. Caches were hidden a various places around Crickhowell and the grid references and clues as to their whereabouts were published on the internet. Special tokens were distributed to each cache for the geocachers to collect and, on each weekend, the first team to collect a set of tokens and hand it in to the Tourist Information Centre received a prize. There was also an area set aside where geocachers met to talk about geocaching and exchange travel bugs. 50 teams competed and the whole event was a great success. Thanks goes to Sambedr for 2 brilliant weekends. Full details can be read here and pics can be seen here
